Summary
Riff is a keyboard and companion app. Typing, autocorrect, predictions, and glide typing stay on your iPhone. We do not run an account server, we do not sell data, and we do not show ads.
What stays on the device
Settings, snippets, clipboard history you choose to save, learned words, translation history, and reply drafts are stored locally on your iPhone. Screenshots you share with Riff are read on the device with Apple text recognition. The image stays on the device unless you turn on image upload.
Optional cloud features
Cloud translate, rewriting, and reply drafts are off by default. If you turn them on, you paste your own API key for a provider you choose (OpenRouter, OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq, or a custom compatible endpoint). Riff then sends only the text you asked it to process, as the authorization header plus that request, to that provider. We do not receive a copy.
Sending the screenshot image itself is a separate switch and is off by default. If you leave it off, only the extracted words are sent.
These network features also need Full Access on the keyboard. Riff types without Full Access.
Photos
If you pick a chat screenshot, iOS asks for photo access so Riff can read that image. Images are not uploaded unless you turn that option on.
No tracking
Riff does not use advertising SDKs, analytics services, or tracking pixels. Optional local feature counters stay on the device and are off by default.
